(Bethesda, MD, September 15, 2004) - New Technology Provides Detailed Images to Help Treat Blood Clots, Aneurysms, and Other Neurological Abnormalities.
| What: | Suburban Hospital’s Interventional Neuroradiology Department is the first in Montgomery County to utilize bi-plane angiography, an advanced diagnostic x-ray system used to visualize blood vessels in the brain and other parts of the body. The new procedure is differentiated from traditional angiography in that it provides very detailed images from two different angles at the same time, significantly reducing testing and procedure time, as well as risk to the patient. |
| Why: | The bi-plane angiography system is used to help many individuals avoid more invasive procedures for aneurysms, clotted arteries, spinal disease, and stroke, the nation's third leading cause of death. |
| How: | By viewing comprehensive anatomical images, physicians are better able to navigate vessels with tiny catheters to access and treat certain brain diseases and abnormalities. |
| Who: | Dr. Wayne Olan, Director Interventional Neuroradiology, says bi-plane angiography, the new gold standard, is quicker, more efficient, and provides a greater degree of safety for patients. A patient is available to discuss his treatment, and experience with the new imaging system. |
